Ángel Ramírez

Ángel Ramírez, born in Havana in 1954, stands out as one of the most innovative contemporary Cuban artists. His work is characterized by the creation of a complex web of visual languages that reach a remarkable poetic depth. Through conceptual metaphors, Ramírez manages to combine technical mastery and creative agility, allowing for a fluid transition between painting, engraving (particularly woodcut) and sculpture, without compromising the essence of its contents.

Ramírez’s approach to reality is incisive and critical. He draws from the harshness and tensions of the contemporary world the raw material for his narratives full of paradoxes and symbolisms. Themes such as farewells, chaos, loss of identity and human contradictions emerge in his work with a tone that alternates between cynicism and lucidity. His work challenges the viewer to reflect from a posture of intellectual resistance to the complexities and absurdities of modern life, confirming his place as a creator committed to art and social criticism.
